A Space Wedding is a One of a Kind Occasion

As more and more couples look to break away from the cookie cutter wedding experience, one of the best ways to do so is to hold your big day at a space that is truly out of this world. From a raw warehouse to an airport hangar, there are plenty of ways to turn your big day into a space wedding that is sure to take your guests’ breath away.

The first ever space wedding took place 16 years ago, when Ekaterina Dmitrieva, a U.S. citizen of Russian descent, married Yuri Malenchenko via a video link while he was orbiting in the International Space Station. They had originally planned to marry on Earth, but his mission was extended and he couldn’t wait. The pair had a small ceremony at the NASA headquarters in Texas with a cardboard cutout of Malenchenko and Dmitriev walking down the aisle to David Bowie’s “Magnificent Romeo.”

Since then, the idea of tying the knot in outer space has gained popularity. A company called Space Perspective is offering lovers the opportunity to say their vows while looking down on Earth, and the waiting list for this once-in-a-lifetime event is light-years long. The company’s Space Lounge, a carbon-neutral balloon with giant windows to make the most of the ultimate view of planet Earth, can accommodate up to nine people including the pilot.

For this once-in-a-lifetime occasion, the bride will be wearing a dress designed to fit in microgravity, while the groom will be wearing a custom made tuxedo by J.Lucas Clothiers that includes tails fashioned from materials that will hold their shape in zero gravity. They will also exchange rings designed by jeweler Chris Ploof that feature pieces of the Gibeon meteorite, a space rock composed of iron-nickel alloy that fell in prehistoric times in Namibia.

In order to pull off this one of a kind event, many couples are turning to a professional planner who specializes in creating raw spaces into unique venues that will stand out from the rest. They can provide valuable insights on maximizing the available space and helping couples navigate logistical challenges that may arise.

Adding your own personal touches to the decor is a great way to make your wedding feel special and out of this world. Your personality and love story should be reflected in the details of your big day. Whether that means choosing an antique wedding dress or incorporating your favorite plant into your bouquet, it’s the little things that make your space wedding your own. The most important thing is that you choose a space that will bring your big dreams to life, and an experienced planner can help you get there. The next time you book a wedding space, ask your event planner for recommendations on photographers and videographers who specialize in working with spaces that will enhance the beauty of your wedding decor. After all, the visuals of your big day will be what lasts forever.
