A Space Wedding is a Dream Come True

If the idea of marrying your partner under the stars and with only a few planets to witness your union excites you, a company called Space Perspective is offering the chance to do just that. The only problem is the waiting list is already light-years long.

If you have a willing partner and pockets deep enough, you can reserve a spot aboard a Space Perspective trip in late 2024 for about $125,000 per seat. Guests can choose from two different missions, one of which will take you to the edge of space to look down on Earth’s third rock from the sun. The other will fly you into orbit inside a carbon-neutral SpaceBalloon, giving you the ultimate view of our planet.

While there are certainly risks associated with getting married in space, the experience is still one that will surely live on in your memories. In fact, the wedding of a Russian cosmonaut and his American bride is well known, though it wasn’t exactly a standard event for a space traveler.

Yuri Malenchenko and his American bride Ekaterina Tikhonovich were wed while the cosmonaut was on an unscheduled mission to the International Space Station (ISS). They walked down the aisle to David Bowie’s “Absolute Beginners” via video conference from 402 km over New Zealand, with her wearing a traditional white wedding dress and he a bow tie. Russia officials wanted him to postpone the wedding until he returned to Earth, but that was not an option since his profession requires constant readiness for danger and a great deal of time away from home.

Space weddings can be very expensive, but it’s an opportunity to celebrate a unique love story with a very memorable event. The most important thing to remember is that your wedding day should be about who you are as a couple and the things that bring you together, so make sure any decor or details you add reflect that.

If the prospect of designing an out-of-this-world wedding seems daunting, consider hiring a professional. Event planners can help you create a custom experience that’s uniquely you, and can also provide valuable insights into maximizing the use of your space for an effective event.

You’ll also want to make sure the venue you choose has an experienced photographer and videographer on staff or can recommend someone who does. These visual artists will help capture the big day and ensure you have lasting memories of your wedding to share with family and friends.
