The World’s First Space Wedding

When couples dream of their wedding day, they envision a unique venue that reflects their personal style and tells their story. From a hotel ballroom to an industrial loft space to a sprawling old estate, no wedding space is the same. And that’s why there’s a growing trend in blank space wedding venues, where brides can tailor every aspect of the event to their vision.

This type of venue can be found around the world and is ideal for couples who want their ceremony and reception to stand out. However, these spaces may require a little more planning than a traditional wedding venue because they don’t typically come equipped with all the essentials such as bathrooms and access to electricity. For this reason, it’s important to talk with the coordinator of a blank space venue before reserving it for your big day.

In a bid to make the world’s first space wedding happen, a company called Space Perspective is offering a trip for two to the edge of space. This space travel experience is unlike any other, as passengers will be in what’s known as the Space Lounge capsule, which has nine seats including the pilot. The experience includes drinks, comfortable chairs to watch the stunning view, and wi-fi so that couples can FaceTime their loved ones. The only catch is that the flight costs USD $125,000 per person, though it’s possible to book a space on the Space Perspective website for late 2024.

Yuri Malenchenko is a legendary cosmonaut who ranks second on the list of cosmonauts who have spent the most time in space. He was even named a hero of Russia for his professional achievements, but the highlight of his career came when he married his wife Ekaterina at the ISS. The couple sent a video conference link to the ground and had the event streamed live on NASA TV, as well as a special ring delivered on a Progress cargo ship so that Yuri could wear it in orbit.

As for the wedding itself, Yuri wore his spacesuit to tie the knot and he and his wife shook hands with each other and said their vows on video. Ekaterina wore a special ring with precious stones set in the shape of planets, the Sun and the ISS itself.

The cosmonauts then returned to their lives on Earth and were reunited with their daughter, Camilla, who was born during their ISS mission. They have remained close friends and still communicate with each other regularly.

While the idea of a space wedding might seem out of this world, it is gaining popularity as more and more people embrace technology to bring their dreams to life. Last year, a couple who had their in-person wedding canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic staged their ceremony within Animal Crossing, an immersive virtual world.
