Plan a Space Wedding With a Professional Planner

Whether you love to stargaze with your sweetheart or dream of being the first couple to say “I do” in space, a new company is giving you the chance to do so. A Florida-based travel agency called Space Perspective is selling tickets for couples to travel to the edge of space in a carbon-neutral balloon, and it already has a waiting list light years long.

Unlike getting married in a church, having your nuptials at an unconventional venue allows you to get creative with your decor and theme options. You can use the space in a way that reflects your unique personality, and it gives you an opportunity to create a truly unforgettable experience for your guests. But if you’re going all out with your space wedding, it’s essential to work with a professional planner who can help you navigate any challenges that may arise along the way.

A good wedding planner will have years of experience and will know how to make the most out of your space and budget. They’ll also have an extensive network of vendors that they can recommend based on your specific needs. They’ll be able to provide insight on maximizing the available space, suggest creative solutions for any challenges that might come up, and help you avoid any costly mistakes.

While it’s possible to plan a space wedding on your own, you’ll likely spend more money and have more stress as you work on the logistics alone. A professional planner will be able to handle the details for you and give you an all-inclusive price quote, saving you time, money, and sanity in the process.

Public spaces often have lower initial rental rates, presenting a more affordable option to many couples. But they also come as a blank slate, requiring significant investment in decor, linens, furniture, and more to transform the space into your vision. And since they’re public, on-lookers can sometimes pop in and out of your event throughout the day, which can be a major distraction.

Despite the risks and logistical challenges, this couple is excited about their out-of-this world nuptials. Yuri Malenchenko, the groom, is an experienced astronaut who has completed multiple missions and even performed two spacewalks. He was joined by his friend and crewmate, Ed Lu, who conducted the ceremony via video linkup between the station and the hall. The pair marched down the aisle to David Bowie’s “Absolute Beginners” and, in accordance with Texas law, conducted a proxy marriage (one of Malenchenko’s colleagues stood in for him in Houston) as they blew kisses to each other. They will hold a religious service in Russia next June to complete the wedding ceremony and receive official blessings from Russian authorities. Then they plan to celebrate again in the future, on the Voyager Station, an orbiting space hotel designed like a cosmic cruise ship. It’s due to open in 2027.
